Let Go of Lack to Embrace Abundance

I recently heard a quote that resonated deeply with me. It explained a way of thinking that we can all benefit from exploring. A way of being that focuses not on the lack in our lives but instead highlights the never ending abundance that we may see if we so choose to…

"Enough is not a quantity. It’s not a number, it’s not an amount. It’s a relationship to what you already have." - Geneen Roth

When I heard this I was walking on a trail and I literally stopped in my tracks. Finally the idea of lack clicked for me.

Redefining what Lack means

I have been working on my personal development journey intensely since I lost my job. And in the never ending self help podcasts I have been listening to I keep hearing over and over again that you have to let go of lack to step into a new way of being. I never really understood what that meant. To me it seemed like lack was what it sounds like, a lack of something, a characteristic that could be quantified. You either had something or you didn’t. As a scientist I have lived most of my life under the assumption that you could measure just about everything in our world. That if you couldn’t put a specific quantity on something that it then existed outside of our daily existence. In the last year I have completely shattered this belief, and much of my revelations have come after I lost my job. Once I stopped being a Lab Director I started thinking and approaching life in a less scientific way and started to embrace my inner intuition.

The revelations seem to be coming nonstop now and at times all I can do is sit back and thank the universe for finally showing me the light.

When I heard this quote I again felt a wave of intuition and understanding. Enough is NOT a quantity to be measured. It’s the way you view what you already have! Lack is the exact same thing. You can choose to view your life as lacking in something, whether it be money, love, or free time. Or instead you can choose to view your life as full of abundance! It’s all about the perspective that you CHOOSE to have.

Letting go of Lack is knowing you have ENOUGH

One thing is for sure, perspectives are entirely able to be changed. Now don’t get me wrong, changing your own perspective can be some of the hardest work you do. But it is entirely possible. I might be making a fraction of what I made at the top of the totem pole as a Chemist, but my life feels so much more abundant because now I look at everything I do have as enough. I have a roof over my head and that is enough. I was able to visit family for the holidays and that is enough. My business is slowly taking off and that is enough. By simply telling myself that what I have is enough and working hard to truly in my heart believe that, I feel as if my world is overflowing with Abundance!

Embrace what you have to embrace ABUNDANCE

I feel like in modern society where we tie our worth to productivity we sometimes feel like we never have enough. Like our life would be so much better if we got that raise, or that new car, or that bigger house, or that new shiny thing that everybody has on social media. But that is actually living in a lack mindset. If you live in that mindset then even when you do get that thing you thought you wanted you still don't feel complete. There is always something else to attain. Always another promotion to be had. I felt this so deeply working in my industry. Even as I climbed my way up the ladder until I literally couldn’t be promoted any further I still felt like something was missing! It wasn’t until I lost everything that society told me I needed that I started to reframe how I thought about things. Suddenly with no job, no money coming in and no “success” as society defines it I was intensely surprised to find that I was actually a lot happier. I needed a dramatic shift in life to show me what truly mattered.

And slowly but surely I am learning what abundance truly is! For me abundance looks like time to slow down and take walks. It looks like getting to talk to my family on the phone in ways I couldn’t before. My brother lives in France and it was always so hard to reach him when I worked 8-5:30. It looks like celebrating every single cent that I earn through a business that I created with my own two hands. My life is full of abundance and I truly do not think I would have realized this until I let go of my lack mentality.

I challenge you to let go of Lack

So I challenge you, where in your life do you feel like you don’t have enough? Now think about that area and make a list of all the things you do have.

For example, maybe you feel like you need more money. Then your list might look like:

  1. I have a roof over my head, a home out of the elements.

  2. And a warm bed to sleep in.

  3. Everyday I eat food that I am able to provide my family.

Or maybe you feel like you need a new car. Then maybe your list is:

  1. The car I do have is able to take me all the places I need to go.

  2. My car payment is lower than it would be with a new car.

  3. And I don’t have to worry about putting a large sum of money down for a downpayment.

These are just a few examples but I am sure you can come up with more! See for yourself in what ways you can reframe your mindset away from lack and into abundance.

Thank you so much for reading another note from my heart. These posts truly flow from my soul and I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them!
